[Press Release] Filipinos to mark Social Media Day on June 27

Hundreds of netizens, communities, social media denizens, thought-leaders and advocates are set to gather anew for Social Media Day on June 27 at the Museo Pambata’s open grounds along Roxas Blvd., in Manila.

Carrying the theme and hashtag #ChangePH, the fourth Philippine edition of Social Media Day will feature a community expo starting at 10:00 am and a conference from 2:00-8:00 pm.

Spearheaded globally by tech website Mashable and locally by TweetUpMNL, Social Media Day was first held in the Philippines in 2012 and has become a much-anticipated event.

TweetUpMNL co-founder Ros Juan explained that “the theme #ChangePH is a hat tip to the innovations that have brought positive changes to the lives of many Filipinos, as well as to change coming to the nation in 2016. On June 27, we celebrate the milestones for the past year and look forward to more change-making by connected Filipinos.”

“We are happy that Social Media Day is always powered by cooperation and collaboration of communities who devote their time, energy and creativity for what has become the country’s most-anticipated annual social media event,” added TweetUpMNL co-founder, Tonyo Cruz.

The choice of venue, Museo Pambata, hopes to shine light and social media starpower to the country’s first interactive children’s museum.

Joining TweetUpMNL for Social Media Day are: IGersManila, Tumblr PH, PinoyExchange, Google Business Groups, Google Education Groups, Google Student Ambassadors, Google Developer Groups, Mozilla Philippines, Windows Phone PH, Muni PH, Soundcloud Philippines, Hootsuite Ambassadors PH, iVolunteer, Words Anonymous, Bata Balik Eskwela, Rise for Education, Kabataan Partylist, Startup Travels, Black Pencil Project, Freelancer.ph, Save The Children PH, and more.

Partners include the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Bulletin, CNN Philippines, BlogWatch, WhenInManila, Globe, Smart, Picture City, Oishi, Asia Brewery, Binalot, Teavolution, A Space, Honeycomb, Zomato, Freelance PH, Global Learning Support, Commune, Ticketbase and Galileo.

Since 2012, TweetUpMNL has been the Philippine organizing group for Social Media Day: #SocialMediaCapital in 2012 at Ayala Triangle; #fwdPH in 2013 at the New Glorietta; and #BoomPH in 2014 at SM Premiere Aura.

It also co-organized the Social Good Summit in 2012, and its leaders were co-conspirators in the crowdsourced #ReliefPH and #RescuePH citizen responses to calamities.
