With the localization & translation efforts for the Mozilla Firefox Aurora in Tagalog Project almost 100% done (we’re in the process of reviewing and approving all of your translation suggestions – thank you!), community members the Bicol and Zamboanga Peninsula regions had started their own efforts to localize our favorite web browser and even parts of the Mozilla website.
Central Bikol (or simply Bikol) is the most-spoken language in the Bicol region. With around 2.5 million users in the country, Bikol is ranked as the 7th most spoken native language in the Philippines since year 2000.
Mozilla Philippines Community members from Zamboanga City recently had a translation sprint to Chavacano (at times referred to as Philippine Creole Spanish). Chavacano is not just being spoken in Mindanao (where Zamboanga City is located), it is also widely used in Basilan, Cotabato, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Davao, Sulu and even in Sabah, Malaysia. There is also a local community based in Ternate, Cavite and Cavite City who primarily uses Chavacano alongside Tagalog.
