[PRESS RELEASE]

Mozilla Community Space Manila

15 Sep 2014 | Manila, Philippines — The Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) is very happy to announce the opening of the Mozilla Community Space Manila (MozSpaceMNL) in the Philippines’ central business district, Makati City. William Quiviger, Community Manager at Mozilla celebrated the opening ceremony of the space with the community members last Saturday 30 August 2014 at Palet Express in Makati City. Also present in the gathering were friends, partner organizations and supporters of MozillaPH.

The MozSpaceMNL is part of Mozilla’s Community Space Initiative developed by William Quiviger (Mozilla Community Building Team) and Rob Middleton (Mozilla Workplace Resources). Under the program, a total of seven pilot Community Spaces will be launched worldwide in Athens, Bogota, Bangalore, Madrid, Nairobi, Taipei and Manila.

Community Spaces are financially supported and supervised by Mozilla, but are managed by local Mozilla Reps. For the Mozilla Community Space Manila, Mozilla Reps Mentor Robert “Bob” Reyes acts as the Community Space Manager (Steward) assisted by all Mozilla Reps in the country. The local Mozilla Community Space has a seating capacity of 30-50 pax (depending on room setup configuration), is connected to the cyberspace via cable internet, has LCD projection & sound systems.

“There is a reason why the Philippine community was given a Community Space.” Faye Tandog, Community Manager of the Mozilla Philippines Community said. “Mozilla believed in our potential to make positive impact on the project. They saw how dynamic and proactive the Philippine tech scene is. This space is not solely for the use of MozillaPH. All groups who are interested in learning, making and sharing to foster innovation are welcome. Together, we will promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the Web.”

The Mozilla Community Space Manila is now accepting reservations from local communities looking for a venue to host their meetups and trainings. Get in touch with the Mozilla Philippines Community via info@mozillaphilippines.org, follow the Community Space in Manila via @MozSpaceMNL.
