Team MozillaPH Visits Mindoro for the First Time

Team MozillaPH traveled some 276 kilometers south of Manila to reach Innovative College of Science & Technology in Bongabong, Mindoro. To reach the MozTour venue, the team had to travel by land and sea (ferry) for almost ten (10) hours — one way (Google Maps’ estimated travel time is kinda off by several hours, noting that the ferry ride alone is around 180 minutes).

Beforehand, we were advised to expect around 300 to be in attendance. Attendees are comprise of students from different colleges within the town of Bongabong. The venue is the Municipal Gymnasium. To our surprise, two days before the event, a total of 508 signed-up at the Eventbrite page. More surprise came when we reached the event venue …

I started the MozTour by playing The Web We Want video. Then I proceeded with an introduction to the Mozilla Project and the on-going activities of the Mozilla Philippines Community.

Fellow Mozilla Rep Kemuel Joseph Domanog then followed by giving an overview of the Firefox Student Ambassadors (FSA) Program, since most of the attendees are students.

One of MozillaPH’s resident developers, Joell Lapitan gave a talk about Firefox OS and how easy it is to create apps for the mobile Operating System. He did a demo of Developer Tools built-in to Firefox for Desktop.

The last speaker for this MozTour was Kristina Verbo. Aside from an overview of the Women & Mozilla (WoMoz) advocacy, Tina also discussed the Webmaker Project.
