Mozilla Replaces IRC with Riot/Matrix, Hosted by Modular.IM

In December 2019, after long, tedious deliberation, Mozilla decided to replace the ever-reliable IRC (Internet Relay Chat) with Riot/Matrix, hosted by Modular.IM as the synchronous messaging platform of the organization.

“While all of the candidates proved to be excellent team collaboration and communication tools, Riot/Matrix has distinguished itself as an excellent open community collaboration tool, with robust support for accessibility and community safety that offers more agency and autonomy to the participants, teams, and communities that make up Mozilla,” posted by Mike Hoye, Engineering Community Manager at Mozilla.

Mozillians can now use the new communications platform via https://chat.mozilla.org using a desktop web browser (Firefox, of course).

If you have a Firefox Account, you may use that as your login credentials to the Mozilla Riot/Matrix:

Once you are into the Riot/Matrix, be sure to join the Mozilla Philippines room.

We will be working on how we can migrate the MozillaPH Slack instance to Riot/Matrix soon. If you encounter problems accessing the new messaging platform replacing IRC, please leave a comment in this post or get in touch with any Pinoy Mozilla Rep.
