MozillaPH L10n Team Meeting (April 2020)

The April 2020 Monthly Meeting of the Mozilla Philippines (MozillaPH) Localization (L10n) Team happened at 2100H tonight (MNL time) via the MozillaPH Slack.

A total of eleven (11) Pinoy Mozillians were present during the online meeting presided by Mozilla Philippines Community Localization (L10n) Lead, Robert “Bob” Reyes. We had one (01) new Mozillians attending the MozillaPH L10n Meeting for the first time: Willy Ostil, Jr. Mabuhay!

L10n Updates

Bob apprised the team on updates from the Mozilla L10n team, including:

  • Mozilla turned off the Mozilla IRC and officially switched to Matrix. There is a channel dedicated to L10n community conversation via https://chat.mozilla.org. Know how to access the Mozilla Matrix via https://wiki.mozilla.org/Matrix.
  • The deadline to update localization is set to April 21 (Firefox 75 is currently in Beta; Firefox 76 is currently in Nightly).
  • There’s a challenge in localizing the new authentication dialog in Firefox 76 (especially for macOS users).
  • REMINDERS: The SUMO (Mozilla Support) decommissioned all old SUMO accounts last 23 March 2020.
  • Pontoon now has a Comments field!
  • Pontoon now has the ability to pre-translate strings using translation memory and machine translation.
  • And, finally, Pontoon has the ability to measure project size in words (in addition to strings count).

Priority Projects

Aside from the projects (like Firefox) with on-going localization at Pontoon, here are the other projects that the MozillaPH L10n Team also have to work on:

Other Matters

  • The MozillaPH L10n Team now has a Task Dashboard via Github at https://github.com/mozillaph/localization/projects/1
  • Bob reminded the meeting attendees to have their Mozilla Community Portal accounts ready. The portal website will be replacing the Mozillians.org phonebook directory website.
  • A Localization Sprint is scheduled on Saturday, 25 April 2020 coinciding the MozillaPH Community Monthly Meetup (which will happen online).
